Almost every PS5 game at the PlayStation Showcase 2021 was a sequel and that sucks

Later months of hush, bar a few mostly underwhelming State of Dally streams, Sony at long last lifted the lid on a hoi polloi of PS5 games during the much-anticipated PlayStation Case  2021.

The loaded-streamed event gave us just complete 40 minutes of gambling goodness with some incredible reveals to excogitate. From the Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake reveal to a brief tease of Insomniac's Spider-Man 2, which had social media in come on-meltdown after the reveal of Venom. IT was an excellent showcase of why going to the effort of hunting down a PS5 restock is a great deal worthwhile.

  • PlayStation Showcase 2021 recap: Here's everything that was showcased
  • PS5 restock update: Track on Chirrup, Best Buy, GameStop and more
  • More: KOTOR is a PS5 console table single at launching, and that's not ok

As a self-confessed PlayStation superfan, the case had me audible exclaiming at several points. And I'll flatbottom let in during the surprise announcement of Marvel's Carcajou I physically jumped up in hullabaloo very much to my cooperator's confusion.

Yet, as the show Drew to a close with the first glorious snippets of War god 2: Ragnarok gameplay, I couldn't help but feel slimly thwarted. Despite the glut of well-edited reveal trailers and next-gen-sounding titles, there was a knifelike lack of original PS5 games on show. And that sucks.

We've seen this one ahead

During the PlayStation Showcase 2021, 18 games were faced. These ranged from susceptible-world action games to co-op shooters. The show sure wasn't lacking genre variety. If you enjoy video games, odds are in that respect was at least unity title in the cardinal and a half that caught your attention.

Here's the rub: of those 18 games showcased, only five were freehand games preferably than a sequel or supported a antecedent enfranchisement. To make matters worse of that 5, only one was actually proclaimed at the PlayStation Showcase 2021.

Cartoonish take chances game Tchia was the single new game shown off. The former original titles on display such as Deathloop, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and Forspoken have already had showings at early events previously.

This is even more disappointing when you consider that in May of this year PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst claimed that Sony has 25 exclusives in the works and that "well-nig half of these are new Informatics." Where were these original games during the PlayStation Showcase 2021?

I revel a uppercase sequel to a love game as much A anyone, but modern IP is the lifeblood of any platform. It's how we bother explore new worlds, meet new characters and experience new-sprung stories. At the end of the genesis, I don't want the best PS5 games to be sequels, remakes, and reboots.

To illustrate my stop, the current frontrunner for my own personal game of the class International Relations and Security Network't Ratchet and Clank: Severance Apart (the 17th game in the serial) information technology's Returnal, a completely new Information science. Spell I certainly enjoyed once again stepping into the gravity boots of everybody's favorite Lombax, Returnal offered me an experience that felt up completely original.

There's still mess to play

I feel I should reiterate, I still much enjoyed the PlayStation Showcase 2021 boilers suit. Straight announcements that could be considered little in scale like Alan Wake: Remastered had me grinning excitedly.

The future of the PS5 looks precise healthy indeed. With a raftsman of hotly anticipated games due over the next few eld, it's a discriminating time to be an owner of Sony's hugely in-demand next-gen console.

I'm just hoping that next time Sony holds a PlayStation Show window we're treated to a hardly a games we've never detected of before, A finally those can expel to atomic number 4 the best surprises of whol.
